Pests and Disease Control
Most camellias are relatively resistant to insect
attacks. However it is useful to be aware of and know how to control those pests
that can become a nuisance.
Mites and Thrips
The underside of leaves will have a
reddish-dusty, grey-dusty or silvery appearance. "Mavrik " is
reasonably effective and can be used with "Conqueror " Oil at the summer
rate to kill the eggs. Regular misting of the leaves during the hot dry
summer can make the leaf a less desirable place for mites to live.
Bronze Beetle
Can be a problem in spring or early summer, and
shows as holes in the foliage. Carbaryl and synthetic pyrethrins will
provide a measure of control if applied 'just prior to ' and during this
time..
