Flower Forms

Single   

A single layer of five to nine petals surrounding the central stamens.

Semidouble  

Two or more layers of petals surrounding a well-defined central group of stamens.

Anemone  

One or two layers of large outer petals and a prominent dense central cluster of petaloids.

Formal Double  

Has many layers of petals arranged in symmetrical layers with a small bud centre.

Informal Double  

A large group of cultivars falling between semidouble and formal double.  Generally has many raised or fluted petals.  Stamens may be present as a small central group covered by the raised petals, or a greater number may be interspersed among the petals.  Sometimes known as peony form.

Peony Form 

A deep rounded flower of intermingled petals and petaloids, with or without stamens.

Rose Form Double  

Several layers of petals in symmetrical layers with a small centre of stamens
